The Trees for Peace program was designed to demonstrate the importance of restoring fish and wildlife habitats in local watersheds. By planting trees in watershed areas we are stabilizing stream banks, reducing the amount of chemicals and bacteria from entering our streams and creeks, providing shade areas for fish, creating food sources for aquatic life, reducing flooding down stream, creating corridors for wildlife and increasing water quality. Currently, the Trees for Peace Coordinator is scheduling site visits and creating rehabilitation plans for landowners in Grenville County. This service is free.

The Trees for Peace Program provides the trees and wildlife shrubs at a 50% subsidy.
Each year the program coordinator contacts local public schools and schedules school presentations to students in Grades 4 - 8. Each interactive presentation includes fun hands-on activities to reinforce the educational content and environmental theories.
In the spring, buses are provided (at no cost to the school board) to transport students and teachers that were given school presentations earlier in the year, to the planting sites. The children are introduced to native tree and shrub species and told their importance within the ecosystem. Proper planting techniques are demonstrated along with where to plant the trees. This knowledge and experience will lead to a better understanding and greater respect for our shared environment. This tree planting service is at no cost to the landowner.
We wish to thank everyone who helps to make this program successful: The Children of Ireland Foundation, HIVA Environmental Fund, Grenville Land Stewardship Council, Eastern Ontario Model Forest, EcoAction and especially you, the Grenville County Community.
Remember, we can all be good stewards of the land.
